it's not going to be a very good show tonight

I really liked it too. More now that you've pointed out the MT blog.
I loved it. There were a few scenes that felt a little overly dramatic, and it started to feel like they were trying to build out the characters a bit too much right off the bat, but other than that, I thought it was awesome.
Some useless information for ya: My sister dated Matthew Perry for like 10 minutes. It was during his Friends days (and when he had a sponsor following him around).
I'm sure NBC was paying for that sponsor...
I haven't watched any of Aaron Sorkin's other shows, but I watched last night's pilot. For a "premise pilot" I think it worked very well. I was amazed to learn that Matthew Perry can in fact not be annoying. That was a revelation. And Amanda Peet did a good job, too. I'm glad they actually gave props to the movie Network, instead of just stealing the scene.

They made an interesting choice in the pilot of not really showing the "Studio 60 On Sunset Boulevard" show itself, other than the dreadful George Bush Jr. sketch that barely got started before Judd Hirsch hijacked it. If this were a Christopher Guest mockumentary they would have actually shown the sketches, and they would have been hilarious. It will be interesting to see if they can work the sketches in a way to establish that the show is actually funny, but in a way that doesn't disrupt the drama.

I'm happy they're using MT to power their blog. Brad Choate pointed out a month or two ago that Ron Moore, creator of the revamped Battlestar Galactica, uses MT to power his blog. Not only is MT big in Japan, it's big in Hollywood, too.
