So I had done a pretty good job of avoiding the World Cup up until this afternoon, when I grabbed a rare hour on the sofa, and settled in to watch the second half. I had no idea I would be in for some good, old-fashioned American-style football action. (I'd love to know what the heck was said that led to a head in the chest.)

And unfortunately, if you watched it on something OTHER than Univision or Setanta Sports, it probably sounded just like American football with those horrible announcers prattling on with the non-sequiturs and irrelevent banter.
Soccer really doesn't require the announcer's mouth to fill the dead air time between downs like American football does. Announcers in other countries actually seem to understand that natively.
