[this is good]

Gosh, I want TIVO. Maybe next year. But, I have never heard of "re-buffering"...is this standard?

One of the best examples of how much to let your tivo buffer/record before you can start watching is American Idol. In order to watch that show, and only the parts of the show you actually want to watch, it takes at least 30 minutes of the tivo recording before I can start to watch. I think the relevant parts of the show could be consumed in about 15 minutes, and you can skip a bunch of the end. Can you believe they get a buck for every SMS vote?!

I wish they would do nothing but audition people. The rest of the season where people that are all pretty darn terrible pretending to be good is no where near as fun as the auditions.

If I start any sooner than 30 minutes I'm trapped in that terrrible world "other" people live in, watching live television. What a terrible reality so many live in.

Little known Tivo trick: Turn on subtitles on your TV, watch your Tivo'd shows in double speed (one fast forward click) and the subtitles still work. If you are any good at reading fast, you can watch your show twice as fast. Skipping commercials, etc you can watch a good show you like in easily less than 20 minutes.

No buffering required! When have you ever watched a show without being interrupted by the kids or the wife asking you to finish a chore you promised to do but never actually completed (like taking out the trash)? Family life is the buffer. The little yellow "pause" button is the key to a happy family life.
